2818 Colby Avenue

Years ago these homeowners rented a house on Colby with raised vegetable beds and grew lots of different vegetables - so much so that they were able to share with their neighbors and extended family. When they bought their current house, they knew we wanted to have that experience again.

They heard about Sal from a friend and asked him to design their front and back yards, with space to relax and play, beds for growing vegetables, and fruit trees throughout both yards. He created a beautiful design and implemented it in October, 2012.

In the raised vegetable beds they are growing lettuce, kale, arugala, chives, onions, and peas. The front yard is ringed with oranges, lemons, limes, and mandarins. The back yard features apples, bell fruit, persimmon, avocado, passionfruit, and strawberries.

They still have a good amount of grass. The grass in the front yard is not that water-intensive. The back yard does features grass that is more water-intensive; the homeowners plan to remove a large portion of it to create a permanent sandbox for the kids to play in.  Aside from that, they're open to other changes. They'll adjust and reconfigure as they figure out how they'd like to use their outdoor spaces.
