Transition Mar Vista/Venice Talks & Demos

Transition Mar Vista/Venice will present a full day of 15 to 30 minute talks and demonstrations during the Green Garden Showcase at 2454 Louella Avenue.
  • 10:00-10:30 Sacred Earth Community Salon: Swami Omkaranda of the Sivananda Yoga Center will host. 
  • 10:30-11:00 Good Karma Gardens: This is a pay it forward way of helping people start their own edible garden whether on a balcony, a raised bed in a driveway, or front or back yards. Good Karma Gardens recently planted the parkway at this garden.
  • 11:00-11:30 Little Free Libraries: Take a book, Leave a book. Have you seen the Little Free Libaries springing up in our neighborhood?  Come learn about this fun way to encourage literacy and conversation. 
  • 11:30-12:00 Creative Repurposing and Upcycling for Home & Garden: How to use recycled materials of all kinds to make clothes, raised beds, a greenhouse, little Free Libraries.
  • 12:30-1:00 What is Transition?: What you would like to see in your community? Learn how you can participate to make it happen.
  • 1:00-1:30 Greywater and Water Harvesting: What are they, how can you install, what is right for you.
  • 1:30-2:00 Maintaining Worm Bins: Learn the do's & don'ts of feeding the worms and harvesting the compost.
  • 2:00-2:30 Making Kimchi and Sauerkraut: Learn how from an expert.
  • 2:30-3:00 Beyond Cash Economies with Our Time Bank: A Representative of "Our Time Bank" will discuss how you can be less dependent on cash and more resource rich by sharing your time and skills with other members in an interactive community way.
  • 3:00-3:30 Home Grown Gardensat Your Service: How to save seeds and start plants. Matt Van Diepen ( of Mar Vista's farmer's market) will be on hand for give away seedlings and advice for how to include more home-grown edibles in your life.
  • 3:30-4:00 Compost Tea: A compost tea master will demonstrate the secrets of creating great compost and may even reveal his secret Compost Tea recipe.
